By layering cut-out polycarbonate sheets, with predesigned carved-out central volume to fit the scotch bottle, the material’s inherent grid becomes both the structure of the box and the mimicry of a typical Chicago glass skyscraper mullion grid.
The slots, on either sides, are carved in a way to represent the skyline of glazed buildings in Chicago. Hence, the new bottle box can be read in a multi-scale: a symbolic graphical skyline on the sides when the box is opened and laid flat; a glass skyscraper with unitized curtain wall system glowing through the scotch’s sepia ambience; a transparent brick decor protecting the scotch while revealing it at the same time.
