This season's auction design focuses on the painting section entry demonstrating works from two renowned painters, Chu Teh-Chun and Wu Guanzhong. Portal has always been an important element in Chinese architecture and gardens as a transition from one world to another, outside to inside. Paintings are also a portal from reality into another world. Thus, the concept is to create a portal into the painting section and portals into each painting. While a physical puncture creates a physical opening for an entrance, the indentation on the wall folds a solid surface into an imaginary space where each painting appears to be floating through the manipulation of perspective and lighting.
The central space furniture seeks inspiration from the endless Chinese colonnade that bridges the interior with the exterior. The tectonics and materiality are translated from architectural to furniture scale for seating and hangouts.
