So far, only 1% of the sea floor is explored. We know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean. Most seafood consumed is from the top 2% by volume of the ocean. Politically, the ocean was understood along the X-axis which completely obliterates the verticality of marine ecology composed of numerous strata. In fact, most deep ocean species concentrate towards the bottom of the food chain. We can save 90% of our resources by switching our diet to fish from a lower pelagic layer. Also, deep sea species are crucial for recycling marine wastes. Can we rethink our horizontal surface culture as a vertical water column culture?
