Borrowing the architectural typology and language in the surrounding context, the enclosed and solid brick house is transformed into a light weight wood pavilion that can slide open. The iconic shingle roofscape with its vibrant and distinctive color is translated into a sharp orange polycarbonate roof with a contemporary touch. From an enclosed house with a center stage surrounded by bars and canteen seats to an “open house” that extends the stage outside for a bigger audience, the proposal doubles the stage as well as its spatial possibilities for potentially a wider mix of programs, usage and crowd that embraces the spirit of Walk & Talk. Open House is two houses in one that intend to double the cultural experience under the single building footprint.
